Babu’s Cloze Test 2

English Cloze Test

English Cloze Test: Another important variety of questions being asked in all the exams. These are paragraphs with blanks. In the Prelims we typically see a 5 blank cloze and in Mains we find a similar question with 10 blanks. It is like Error-Finding questions, another favorite of the students. An average candidate who is good at understanding the story can benefit from such questions as 70% blanks are easily manageable.

How to Attempt?

  • Scan the whole paragraph to judge the story first as the words that may fit initially would appear wrong when read with the tone of the paragraph
  • While reading try to judge by yourself which word would complete the sentence and look for the same word first in the questions or a synonymous word in some option. This would save you from getting confused between options
  • After choosing a word for a blank, read the preceding and succeeding lines also to make proper sense and sequence of the given context
  • Sometimes, the grammatical fit of the words also helps. For example the articles before the blanks or words following the blanks can be a great hint

If confused; leave those blanks and mark only those you are sure about.

We are sharing with you some easy very basic cloze tests for learning. Exact exam level questions can be found in other posts.

Good Luck! Happy studies… 🙂
